Anyone out there with a MacBook Pro mid 2015 (macbookpro11,5) who might be willing to extract the Facetime camera firmware with the script linked below and sent it too me?

Boosts appreciated.

I installed Linux over the top of MacOS on my old MacBook Pro before realizing I needed to grab the camera firmware first. I need it to get the built in working in Linux.

@semifor the script looks like it's just extracting from the driver bin and isn't hardware specific at all? but do reply if im wrong since i have an 11,5 mbp on monterey and won't mind getting it out later

@a Hmm. I no longer have my MacOS installation to check. Maybe you have to specify the file with the -x option:
-x /System/Library/Extensions/AppleCameraInterface.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleCameraInterface

I think that's where it's supposed to live.

@semifor you're right about the path! but ironically, the script doesn't work on macos bc apple ships an ancient bash and zcat, and no sha256sum at all. i messed up the script to work anyways and i *think* this is right home.amys.website/temp/firmwar (from macos 10.11.5) hope that helps!

@a I'm glad you noticed the thank you. I replied to the wrong messages in my excitement. 🤣
@a Amy, I owe you a beverage of your choice! I now have a working camera. Thank you so much.

@semifor yay glad to hear it!

i have a number of macbooks from this era (with the 11" air as my main laptop) so im always happy to see others still enjoying them too! maybe i should finally try linux on one? but im happy with monterey for the most part

@a I have a newer macbook that's been my daily driver for the past 3 years. Too new to solve my camera problem on the older laptop. But I decided I really wan to go back to linux and getting it up and running on this old macbook is the first step. If you decide to install linux on one of your macbooks and there's anything I can do to help, please shout.
@a Huge thank you! I'll let you know if it works.
