i have 10 sata hdds, and for years they would occasionally disconnect or get stuck repeatedly trying to spin up, often hanging or panicking my pc (thank you macos).

anyways, they were all powered on molex-to-3x-sata dongles, and in november on a whim i cut off the molex plugs and soldered the sata plugs directly to the psu cables.

it's been stable for a few months now, so im tentatively concluding those 4-pin connectors are not reliable..? is it just my cables or a known thing with molex?

@a "molex to sata, lose all your data" is kind of a common phrase one might hear ^^

i believe it stems from some of the adapter cables being extremely dodgy and you probably got some of the bad ones

@cursedbit fair lol, they were [whatever was the cheapest aliexpress option at the time] 😓 a little surprised it was the molex rather than sata side that was unreliable, though

..i am probably lucky there wasn't any fire
