alright it took the better part of my weekend but I finally back-ported Mastodon to iOS 4

ended up being a broken connection between an 8.6v line and this resistor connecting to a chip which (i think) makes some of the cpu voltages. the water/corrosion probably shorted it to ground (e.g. right side of the capacitor directly below) and burned the trace?

not completely sure, but it was lifeless until i soldered the wire, and now works perfectly!

finally managed to fix the water-damaged 2015 MacBook Air 😁 thanks to dosdude1 for the boardview and extreme patience with my questions!

replaying VVVVVV after about 5 years and it's 100% as good as i remembered ☺️

It was kind of a trip out when I realized that the three primary colors aren't some objective fact of physics, but just an artifact of the kind of cones we have in our eyes.

@kawaiizenbo just recently learned that you can setup windows 11 entirely offline by pressing shift+f10 on the first screen, then `cd oobe` followed by `bypassnro`. this skips the network setup entirely and defaults to a local account

just found a very small surface-mount component on my desk shortly after swapping SSDs in my 2010 MacBook

it still works but...

@sanvsarr yesss, he posted about selling signed copies around christmas, i figured a replacement for my "crime pdf" copies was long overdue anyways.. 😅 just arrived a couple days ago!

finally bought a legit copy of Area X by Jeff VanderMeer. you should read this.

can they make a raisin and grape juice from the same grape

I saw this online somewhere and I just had to recreate it. This is my coding happy place.

Until I was about 14, I thought the cones you sometimes see dogs wearing were to make the dog's bark sound louder and, thus, more effective for scaring away potential burglars.

@zebo two of my most favorite items in one place 🥰

what i'm saying is: download the things you love. download even the things you like, that you find any significance in at all. hoard data. disk space scarcity is more or less no longer real if you have even a small amount of money to spend. anything that is not saved will be lost

@siracusa @brentsimmons @stroughtonsmith

this definitely happened, and you can (unless they've removed it since 14.2) revert to the Carbon-based implementation with `defaults write -g NSEnableAppKitMenus -bool false` (reboot or quit the relevant apps)

restore default behavior with `defaults delete -g NSEnableAppKitMenus`

One of my favourite graphics on Wikipedia is this illustration of the maximum dimensions of a PDF page: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil

Correction: not the maximum size of a PDF file, but a page within a PDF file. (Thanks Uwe.)
