@foone maybe im being naive here, but isn't it quite possible that LLMs are "good enough" at many workplace tasks (coding, writing, translation..) to be sustainable on that alone?
like, prices go way up, most individual chatgpt-or-whatever users are priced out, but with more enterprise subscriptions and less money burned on "free" chatbots, the AI companies survive and become profitable...
boring prediction: that rumored 12" macbook will be one of two things:
- genuinely cheap but with ipad-like limitations (e.g. only appstore apps, no xcode, single usb-c port..)
- a full-fledged computer but priced only like $100 below the regular macbook air
hope im wrong, but "low-cost" apple devices are always one or the other. they won't risk cannibalizing their other product lines

@film_girl @nicolas17 while i agree it's a fantastic machine for the price, isn't there an argument to be made that "person who keeps laptops a decade" is the exact _worst_ candidate for a 3 year old model ~halfway through its macos support lifespan?

@siguza i think it's always worked for me on sata drives and never on usb ones. no clue if it matches what you're seeing though

@samhenrigold my dad buys those occasionally during holidays and it's.. a complete gamble? sometimes wonderful and soft, sometimes dry, sometimes rock hard, sometimes black and moldy. sometimes easy to peel, sometimes very difficult. lmao but maybe just the fault of where he gets them. idk anything about chestnuts

i thought it died years ago, but apparently the battery was just so low that it wouldn't even try to charge. briefly injected 5 v to the battery terminals and now it's working and charging off usb!!
sadly the pokemon save is long gone since they need power to keep data..
