Beware of geeks bearing gifts. When prison-tech companies started offering "free" tablets to America's vast army of prisoners, it set off alarm-bells for prison reform advocates - but not for the law-enforcement agencies that manage the great American carceral enterprise.

@platkus @siracusa @brentsimmons @stroughtonsmith not sure if it'll work, but setting it in the specific app's domain (defaults write com.the.apps.CFBundleIdentifier) worth a try?
ended up being a broken connection between an 8.6v line and this resistor connecting to a chip which (i think) makes some of the cpu voltages. the water/corrosion probably shorted it to ground (e.g. right side of the capacitor directly below) and burned the trace?
not completely sure, but it was lifeless until i soldered the wire, and now works perfectly!
@kawaiizenbo just recently learned that you can setup windows 11 entirely offline by pressing shift+f10 on the first screen, then `cd oobe` followed by `bypassnro`. this skips the network setup entirely and defaults to a local account
@sanvsarr yesss, he posted about selling signed copies around christmas, i figured a replacement for my "crime pdf" copies was long overdue anyways.. 😅 just arrived a couple days ago!

what i'm saying is: download the things you love. download even the things you like, that you find any significance in at all. hoard data. disk space scarcity is more or less no longer real if you have even a small amount of money to spend. anything that is not saved will be lost

this definitely happened, and you can (unless they've removed it since 14.2) revert to the Carbon-based implementation with `defaults write -g NSEnableAppKitMenus -bool false` (reboot or quit the relevant apps)
restore default behavior with `defaults delete -g NSEnableAppKitMenus`
One of my favourite graphics on Wikipedia is this illustration of the maximum dimensions of a PDF page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Seitengroesse_PDF_7.png
Correction: not the maximum size of a PDF file, but a page within a PDF file. (Thanks Uwe.)
