dreamed i was romantically involved with a blonde, more feminine, slightly shorter version of myself. wtf was that about

..unless the penguin was the zeroth child ?

@cursedbit fair lol, they were [whatever was the cheapest aliexpress option at the time] 😓 a little surprised it was the molex rather than sata side that was unreliable, though

..i am probably lucky there wasn't any fire

laptop screw fell out again and i still haven't bought glue so im back on the "using green nail polish as adhesive" grindset

@jwz @mwichary thanks for the answer! that's incredibly annoying.

my machine (headless, always on, used intermittently on vnc, has external drives) is somehow immune to the second issue, but i don't doubt that it's real. now im nervous 😓

Have *you* gone to buy a Pokémon game in the past 5 years and noticed that they cost hundreds of dollars?

There's two simple explanations for that. Unfortunately, they're "scams" and "fascism".

NEW SUBSTACK FROM ME: open.substack.com/pub/laserdyk

@jwz @mwichary genuine question, what's wrong with sequoia? i have it on one machine and noticed ~no differences from sonoma. tahoe obviously is a different story

@lyresdictionary i love when this generates a real, common word

@macrumors expected but still disappointing, since most of the best intel macs (2015 mbp, 2015/17 mba) are all stuck on monterey. firefox still supports catalina and up though!

i have 10 sata hdds, and for years they would occasionally disconnect or get stuck repeatedly trying to spin up, often hanging or panicking my pc (thank you macos).

anyways, they were all powered on molex-to-3x-sata dongles, and in november on a whim i cut off the molex plugs and soldered the sata plugs directly to the psu cables.

it's been stable for a few months now, so im tentatively concluding those 4-pin connectors are not reliable..? is it just my cables or a known thing with molex?

unsolved secondary problem called "i have like 6 of these now and nobody wants to buy them For some reason"

bit confusing (for me), a trace for boot rom was broken resulting in no sign of life and cycling S4 - S0 lines. thankfully there were test points at both sides to solder to. it's the "rare" i7 config as well!

ordered it months ago but didn't try to fix it until today.. i've been feeling yucky and i'm happy to accomplish something minor 😋

@billgoats deeply unfair that we may chat with women about arbitrary subjects, but chats with men are limited in topic to football

@kqct i used to always do this with 13" laptop, was a bit dismayed to realize my new 11" macbook air is too small, shortly followed by the scrunching-up of a blood test form's edges in my bag 😓

@gewt even the available ones seem to be weirdly expensive? ive had amys.website for ages at $20 cad/year and considered amys.computer for my home ip, but it's $100+ everywhere for some reason 😓

🟢 💭 (how my Moto e4 used to sort "Die Young" by Kesha in the Y section of music app bc it thought it was in German or something)

@semifor yay glad to hear it!

i have a number of macbooks from this era (with the 11" air as my main laptop) so im always happy to see others still enjoying them too! maybe i should finally try linux on one? but im happy with monterey for the most part

@semifor you're right about the path! but ironically, the script doesn't work on macos bc apple ships an ancient bash and zcat, and no sha256sum at all. i messed up the script to work anyways and i *think* this is right home.amys.website/temp/firmwar (from macos 10.11.5) hope that helps!

@semifor the script looks like it's just extracting from the driver bin and isn't hardware specific at all? but do reply if im wrong since i have an 11,5 mbp on monterey and won't mind getting it out later
