The MacBook Neo is such an interesting machine that it coaxed a thousand-word-essay out of me: https://samhenri.gold/blog/20260312-this-is-not-the-computer-for-you/
oh my god what, the "macbook neo" has the old style display cable that passes through the hinge https://support.apple.com/en-ca/126159
first macbook in a decade that won't have random display cable failures???
i realize it's _such_ a low bar, but they're finally approaching the standard of the 2015-17 macbook airs again. minus replaceable ssd, plus replaceable keyboard. i didn't expect it at all
omg, i think those little bumps will be roots? maybe i can separate it after a few more months!
also added the paste to 3 more (purple and white, pink and white, and mini yellow and white; this one is white and orange)
pleasantly surprised to be wrong about this! the 8 gb memory is a little worrying long-term but fully expected with a18 pro. other tradeoffs are perfectly fine and it looks nice?
won't be shopping for a laptop for a long time, and i have.. other concerns about apple right now, but fairly impressed nonetheless
@samhenrigold i really, really want to try that apparently non-force-touch touchpad? can you click at the top???
long-term im nervous this'll get disappointingly short macos support due to the 8 gb, but i doubt it will *feel* slow since the m1 still (usually) doesn't. maybe they'll put a19 pro with 12 gb next year.
a downside to this laptop that i didn't anticipate is that it's just always cold to the touch. it's unpleasant
@kqct not to my knowledge, but i haven't looked in a mirror in a bit so can't be 100% certain
@marioguzman ive seen this a few times on tahoe, i think it's getting confused by /.nofollow (which points back at / but disables symlinks)?
if you drag the impostor hd to terminal or a text editor, you should be able to see the real path
@saagar genuine question, how dumb is "i am already fucked if malware runs as my regular user, so idc about escalation or persistence"? it has kind of always been my stance as a casual user but i suspect im missing something
@aronia are the vowels still for sale then
can't even compete with the 11" for daily use, but happy to have a machine that runs macos 26 without patches (and will run 27 in june at all)
@spv https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Z#Terminology
supposedly via "generation z" x "boomer", which i can't verify but im confident it predates covid and widespread use of the zoom software

@mjd omgg thank you
